Tattoo Removal and Hiting the Gym

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Our clients at New Look Laser Tattoo Removal in Houston are very active and going to the gym can be very important to them. The good news is tattoo removal is getting easier and easier and should not interfere wth your gym schedule. With today’s technology the healing time after a laser tattoo removal treatment is fast. You may feel a little discomfort the day of the treatment but most of the time are able to be back at the gym the following day. Your biggest concern will be keeping the treated area covered during a workout. We recommend transpore tape. It will work even if you are sweating from your workout.

Swimming After Laser Tattoo Removal

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Summer is here and one of the most common questions I am asked during a laser tattoo removal consultation is, “Can I go swimming after my laser tattoo removal session?” The simple answer is yes, with time. If after your treatment you get any blistering or scabbing you should wait until that is completely healed before you soak in any water including going swimming. Also, even if you do not have blistering or scabbing please wait atleast three days after your tattoo removal session before you swim.

As your treatments progress you heal up much faster so your days of not being able to get in the pool are limited. Have a great summer and we look forward to your next visit with us at New Look Laser Tattoo Removal in Houston.

Are tattoos in a certain area of the body easier to remove?

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Yes, it seems that when a tattoo is located closer to a lymph node in the body it may be slightly easier to remove. Having said that, the benefit may only be one or two treatments less than if it were in another area of the body. Lymph nodes are the center for the immune system and since it is the immune system responding to the injury by the laser, the easier it is for the immune system to get there the better. A couple of common areas for lymph nodes are the under arms and the neck. In Houston, we see neck tattoos quite frequently and they tend to go away a little faster. Also, tattoos that are close to the underarms tend to fad faster as well. Arm bands will sometimes fad unevenly having the area closest to the underarm fad first.

We have successfully removed tattoos from all over the body in Houston. Do not let the location of your tattoo prevent you from starting your first laser tattoo removal treatment.

Older tattoos are the easiest to remove!

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Older tattoos (10 years+) are normally much easier to remove than new tattoos. A new black tattoo may take on average 6-8 treatments to remove, while an old black tattoo may only take 4-6 treatments to remove. Occasionally we have tattoo removal patients with 20 or 25 year old tattoos. We love removing these tattoos because they come off incredibly quickly and the patients are very surprised with the fast results.

Here’s two reasons why older tattoos tend to be easier to remove:

1) Exposure to the sun fades the ink. The sun works in some ways like a laser, breaking down the tattoo ink slowly over the years. However, the sun takes a long, long time to work. If you have a brand new tattoo and regret it, hanging out by the pool this summer won’t make a big difference in how many sessions you’ll need to remove your tattoo. Hanging out by the pool for the next few years non-stop might, but that much sun exposure may cause other damage that would certainly offset the benefit.

2) The human body tries to break up tattoo ink naturally. Your body isn’t the biggest fan of your tattoo. Over the years it has treated the ink as a foreign substance and done a few things to try to break down the ink and remove it. However, tattoos contain a lot of ink and your body isn’t capable of doing this job on its own. The ink needs to be broken up into smaller fragments that will be carried away and disposed of. A tattoo removal laser will provide this enormously helpful role of breaking up the ink into pieces small enough for the body to quickly process.

So, if you have an older tattoo, you can be excited about needing less treatments than if you tried to remove your tattoo 5 or 10 years ago. If you have a new tattoo, don’t worry. We can still go a great job of removing it with an extra session or two.
