Tattoos and the Military

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Joining the military is one of the top reasons someone is looking to remove a tattoo in Houston. Having a laser tattoo removal treatment for a career is very common in our Houston location and those wishing to serve our country are a big part of that. There are strict requirements with regards to tattoos and the military and it is our pleasure to help some of Houston’s finest obtain their dream. We appreciate their service and dedication to our country.

Some of the common areas in laser tattoo removal for the military are:

1. Neck

2. Forearms

3. Fingers

4. Hands

5. Face

6. Elbows

If you are someone looking to join the military and need a tattoo removed, we would be happy to take your call at 713.783.2000 or you can email me Lynette Kennedy, family nurse practitioner at info@newlookhouston.com and we can answer all your questions on Houston tattoo removal.

Glow-In-The-Dark Tattoos and Laser Tattoo Removal

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Hello! This is Lynette Kennedy, FNP CLS, and I want to discuss an interesting topic, glow-in-the-dark tattoos. Glow-in-the-dark-tattoos have become more popular in recent years and also in the need for their removal. To the best of my knowledge we cannot at this time remove glow-in-the-dark tattoos. The type of pigment or color artists use in these tattoos have a metallic base to provide that intense visual effect. The metallic portion of this pigment apparently reflects the laser energy and does not allow the laser to properly break up the pigment in the tattoo because there is a lack of absorption.

I can tell you that to some extent I agree with this. The idea seems to make sense to me using very basic physics. However, there are ways in which I see colors that are more difficult to remove (such as bright green and blue) be removed by blistering and scabbing. Blistering and scabbing do not differentiate between colors but there has to be enough colors that absorb and are acoustically affected by the wavelength of light used in the laser to injure an area. Couldn’t glow-in-the-dark tattoos have enough pigment that absorbs well in the surrounding areas to lend to enough injury to blister or scab the metallic pigment out of the body? Hmm…I think this is an interesting idea but one I have not tested myself. I will let everyone know the most recent information on this topic as it becomes available. For now, it is safe to say there isn’t an easy way to remove glow-in-the-dark tattoos.

Good News! Yellow is no longer difficult to remove!

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Good news, yellow is no longer difficult to remove! Lasers in the past have not been adequate to remove yellow in unwanted tattoos. However, technology has come a long way in the past two to three years in laser tattoo removal. With today’s new lasers, I have been able to successfully remove yellows of all shades. Using just a few simple techniques with our new laser, yellow is often times the first color to come out in fact and people are now able to remove those tattoos that just a few years ago they could not.

During an initial consultation with New Look Laser Tattoo Removal, we will go over each color in your tattoo so that you will have a fairly accurate idea of what we can do for you. We pride ourselves in giving you honest information and sharing our knowledge that we have accumulated after removing thousands of tattoos. My job is to provide you with all the information so you can make a good decision and be satisfied with your tattoo removal.

On the other hand, teal is still the very hardest color to remove. If you have a tattoo that is teal, I can tell you, chances are you may only have 50 to 75 percent of that color removed. This means you may still have a tent of that color even after your final laser tattoo removal treatment. If you have already started your tattoo removal and it seems like you may fit this teal category, don’t worry, your body may have another way of making that shade of teal fade even more.

Many tattoo artists use the power of black and outlining to hold your colors in and keep your tattoo lasting as long as possible. Most tattoos are outlined in black and that outlining tends to be slightly deeper in the skin. This allows the artist to layer black so that it is able to hold in all your color nicely. The good news is that black is the easiest color to completely remove. Once that black outlining is gone, your body naturally goes to work diffusing the colors in your skin naturally because the particles are smaller. This makes fading and blending much easier for those who have a little teal left over after their final laser tattoo removal treatment.

If you have not started a laser tattoo removal treatment and you have teal or something similar to teal (ie, bright blue or green), make sure you would be happy with having some of that color left over just in case it does not come all the way out. This doesn’t mean your other colors will not come out, just that the teal may not. Remember, if this would be okay to you, your body will naturally disperse the rest of the teal color that is left behind which will lend itself to better blending in with the rest of your skin color.

Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding colors and your tattoo. I would love to give you all the information you need to make a good decision regarding your tattoo removal. Thanks, Lynette Kennedy, family nurse practitioner.

Laser Tattoo Removal’s Common Side Effect - Blistering

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Hello Everyone! This is Lynette Kennedy, family nurse practitioner at New Look Laser Tattoo Removal. I am very excited about this new blog we are starting. It will be a great way for me to discuss some key issues that come up during laser tattoo removal treatments at our clinics in both Houston and Dallas.

One of the first issues I would like to discuss with you is the side effect of blistering. Most patients will experience some form of blistering with any properly executed laser tattoo removal treatment. It is your body responding to the injury by the laser. One of the good things about blistering with tattoo removal is that is not very deep in the skin and should not cause scarring. However, these blisters can get fairly large including covering the entire area treated by the laser. Don’t worry, these blisters heal up beautifully and it will seem like you never had them. Most blistering is gone in one week although occasionally it can last up to two weeks. Most patients will keep them covered if they are in area that may be uncomfortable when wearing clothes (for example, on the waist where your pants button or on your foot where you wear shoes and socks). The blisters will heal up well on their own so just sit back and let your body do the work for you.
Here are a few things that may increase your risk for blistering:

1. Lighter skin
2. Bright, colorful tattoos- tattoos with lighter colors require the use of a 532nm wavelength laser which tends to blister more.
3. First treatment- During your first laser tattoo removal treatment, you have more ink than you will during your second, third, etc. Since you have more ink, there is slightly more side effects to the tattoo removal treatment.

Again, don’t worry too much about blistering, just expect that it will happen and know that it will heal up nicely. Sometimes you even see your tattoo color come out with the blistering which is a very good thing. Let us know if you have any other questions regarding blistering with laser tattoo removal. I would love to answer your questions so you will be completely prepared for your treatment with New Look Laser Tattoo Removal.
